Popular Kenyan musician Wilson Abubakar Radido aka Willy Paul broke his usual routine on Sunday, January 28 and went to church for the first time in about seven years.

In his statement on Monday morning, the former gospel singer revealed that the last time he attended a church service again was in 2017. He noted that he has been avoiding God’s house for the past several years after something he didn’t like happened to him before.

“I haven’t been to church since 2017, because the church did something bad to me,” Willy Paul said through his Instagram page.

However, he revealed that he felt better after letting go of the hair and attending a church service in Nairobi on Sunday.

“But yesterday I attended a church service in Embakasi and I feel very comforted. It will be a very good year because I have started my church,” he said.

The singer of love songs surrounded by a lot of controversy, however, attached his statement with a picture that is not related to the church at all. It was a picture of him with a woman in what appeared to be an entertainment venue. Several years ago, Willy Paul surprised Kenyans when he took the step to leave the gospel and join the secular music industry.

In 2021, he revealed that he rocked the gospel music industry because of unseen forces that worked day and night to bring him down. This led to depression and eventually he broke down. In long words, Willy Paul explained his reason for withdrawing from gospel music.

“If until today I have not gone down on hate then I don’t think I ever will. Some ask me why I left the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ… and even call me names because I no longer praise Jesus in my songs.

According to them I am very bad and everything wrong. Those are the same people who fought for me when I was on the side of Jesus 😆 The reasons why I left. Hatred from fellow artists and DJs, my songs not being played on the air (allegedly that my content was not Godly at the time) discrimination and favoritism.

I was a great artist but these evil people could not see that. Or they just chose to ignore the truth! These people broke my heart! They hurt me so much, I was depressed for 4 months, I kept crying silently every single day and night.

It got to a point where I couldn’t take it anymore… I didn’t have money to pay my bills and even help around the house. Can you imagine I had the biggest songs and these people painted me just that!” Willy Paul complained.
