Controversial musician Bahati has called for greater unity among Kenyan artists as Nigerian and Tanzanian music dominate the country. Bahati bemoaned foreign artists sharing their images and claiming that they were being promoted at the expense of local artists who presently have banded to take Kenyan music onto the next level.
Bahati decried, “Wasanii wenzangu wa Kenya tumeacha jirani analala hadi na bibi zetu… From YouTube, Boomplay, iTunes to our radios & TVs… Number #1 to #10 Trending ni Tanzania I almost thought I was in Dar-es-alaam,”
The ‘Mama’ hitmaker said that only few of Kenyan artists would take Kenyan music to the international stage if at all they collaborated.
“It’s not that I have anything against TZ or Nigeria; in fact, Chibu and King Kiba are my undeniable brothers, but we need to learn from this,” he continued. This is the moment for Kenyan musicians to quit thinking they can succeed independently and band together…”
