Second to Men of God, Kenyan Deejayz have equally had a season to call theirs, giving Kenyans a thing or two to speak about. However for murder, crime, weapons and attacks these are the top 6 most controversial Kenyan Disk Jockeys.
1) DJ FATXO
Lawrence Wagura aka Dj Fatxo, aged 27 is a youngster Mugithi Musician, Dj and Enterpreneur. He rose to infamous status after the death of one Jeff Mwathi, an interior designer who is believed to have died after a one-two-many rounds, partying with Dj Fatxo, only to end up dead many floors down the Mugithi artiste’s apartment.
However many still feel the case should be relooked into considering many unsatisfying statements incoherence from the Dj who was recently declared not guilty. He dates Tv presenter Gathoni Waruguru.
Dj Fatxo serves as the CEO of Dope Unit Entertainment. He also provides branding, event management/planning, artiste management and Dj services.
He was the official dj to Sailors Gang, a gengetone group which helped put his name on the streets.
Dj Fatxo is a trainee of Dj Mo’s System Unit Dj Academy where he graduated. He is a son to Mr. Wagura and Mrs Njoki.
According to the police, a 23 year old Jeff Mwathi died after falling from 10th floor of Redwood apartments in the Kasarani area Nairobi. Jeff was visiting Dj Fatxo.
Lawrence Njuguna Wagura aka Dj Fatxo was born in April 25th 1996 in Kinangop, Nyandarua County. He went to Morning Starlight Academy and later graduated from System Unit Dj Academy. He has a net worth of about 10 to 20 Million Kenya shillings.
2) DJ BROWNSKIN
He is a Kenyan Disk Jockey born Michael Macharia Njiiri. He is currently being charged with aiding suicide after a viral video of the Dj watching his wife die, after drinking a poisonous drink surfaced online. The act took place at their Garden Estate Home in Kasarani Nairobi.
He coined the once famously used Kenyan slogan “Lamba Lila Lolo” which the popular disk jockey used in his mixes and from that phrase he sold merchandise. He has performed in a number of countries including the city of Dubai.
Dj Brownskin’s wife was known as Sharon Njeri Mwangi. She died after reportedly taking poison in July 29th 2022.
In the video allegedly taken by Dj Brownskin himself,sharon is seen having a conversation then she takes something in a cup as Brownskin Records.
The deceased then sits on a couch while in an apparent struggle as recording goes on. Brownskin is heard saying, ” Auntie give her milk”. Then of their children sees his mother lying on the floor, fighting for her life.
“I’m done. Tell my kids and people I love them,” Brownskin’s wife mumbles in the video.
Dj Brownskin was arrested on 1st June 2023 in connection with his wife’s death. He remains in custody pending his court hearing.
3) DJ EVOLVE
In January 18th 2020, Embakasi East Mp Babu Owino booked himself in police custody after a shooting at B-Club Kilimani, where Dj Evolve was the victim. Dj Evolve was shot in the neck.
It is said that Babu Owino arrived at the club, which he frequented, slightly before midnight, accompanied by his handlers and companions. Music flowed, some on his demand. The Dj would occassionally come to his table and take a list of his preferred songs. They drunk, smoked, danced and made merry. When morning came at around 7.00am Babu and his team rose to leave.
They started to lightly poke fun at each other and the Dj joined him. A few minutes later, the shots rang out. The two were however close acquintances and were often together. Whenever Babu Owino stepped into the club he would go to the dj’s deck for a chat.
After surgery though the life of Dj Evolve took a turn for the worse. He could not speak for many months and part of his body was paralysed. His voice has since returned, making remarkable progress, all thanks to intensive care and therapy.
Mp Babu Owino has since secured Dj Evolve a house in Kilimani Estate from which he gave his first testimony in court thus vindicating the Embakasi East Lawmaker of any ill motive. Babu Owino has so far spent about 58 Million on Dj Evolve.
Dj Evolve is a Kenyan entertainer in his late twenties, son to Mary Adhiambo and John Orinda. He went to Jamuhuri High School till 2011 before interning with the insyder magazine. He would then get a job at center stage Marketing under the “Varcity” banner. Kenyans hope Dj Evolve will get back fully on his feet soonest.
4) DJ MOH SPICE
In August 2019, Dj Moh Spice was arrested after he was pictured with a pistol tucked in his pants at his friend Dj Kym Nickdee’s birthday party.
Special Crimes Prevention Unit (SCPU) took him in swiftly for questioning.
His id names are Nicholas Mugo Mwangi. The incident happened at the Space Lounge Club along Ngong Road and weapon was a Steyr Pistol backed up by 174 rounds of ammunition.
In the photo Dj Moh Spice stretches his hand to hold a glass to Dj Kym’s mouth unknowingly lifting his shirt and exposing a gun tucked into his belt. Citizens took to the court of public opinion on social media, thus prompting the authorities to nab the dj and his weapon.
5) DJ GOODIE
Born Salim Moriasi, Dj Goodie met his untimely death at work. He was killed by a KDF Soldier in December 2022. The incident took place in Mariakani area. He had gotten into an argument with a KDF soldier following his authoritative demands.
The soldier commanded the Dj to play a particular song and failing to do so, the soldier landed onto the helpless Dj with endless blows and dangerous Kicks, leading to his death. Dj Goodie was a 27 years old youngster from Kilifi County.
6)DJ SPIDER KE
He entertained fans during Azimio La Umoja presidential campaigns ahead of August 2022 polls in Kenya. However most memorable of all was his resiliense and fine mixing touch during post election demos staged by Azimio La Umoja in Nairobi City. Despite being teargased Dj Spider kept his spirit and focus. An act that got him in the good books with Kenyan fans.
He however made headlines in an event that broke the hearts of many. His equipment were stolen on this one riot day while in a lead Toyota SUV, when police lobbed numerous teargas cannisters at them.
According to the DJ whose real name is Fredrick Mayangu, his laptop was stolen during the onslaught that left even journalists injured. The ordeal happened on March 30th.
