TOP 10 HILLARIOUS MAANDAMANO STUNTS OF THE MONTH.

Political protests in Kenya have in the past not just been full of police running battles with citizens but equally an opportunity to pull hilarious but life threatening stunts that bring the best of tragic comedy. Below are the ten maandamano stunts of the week that have given netizens a run for their bundles. So much fun coming from Kenyans.

1) POLICEMAN’S SHIELD

This young man was spotted with a ‘police’ branded shield believed to have been snatched away from a police officer on duty. Either he timed an officer and ran away with his shield or a police officer must have left it behind after an attack by stone wielding youth. However the courage to hold it and roam around the streets with it during protests is what baffled most Kenyans. The young man must have felt like a law enforcement officer for a minute despite his civilian outlook.

2) TEARGAS RETURNING OFFICER.

The phrase was coined from the popular IEBC official’s title “Returning Officer”
According to election laws of the land, a returning officer is obligated to receive election materials and results from the clerks through their preciding officers.
This phrase has been used over and over again also during protests. Usually when a police officer releases a teargas cannister to a rowdy crowd, one couragious citizen volunteers to return the can back to the police almost immediately by way of kicking. Whoever kicks the can back is known as a returning officer. The returned can is usually intended to serve the police a taste of their own medicine.

3) WOUNDED POLICE OFFICER

Under normal circumstance the police are their full gears during protests and can reteliate if intercepted by a group of rowdy rioting youth. Few cases have been heard of police being manhandled. However a few officers have been maimed and wounded in the process. This photo of a police officer receiving treatment for an injury during protests did grab the attention of the entire country and beyond. This is usually the opportunity to celebrate civilian victory over police. Many will call it a friendly fire where the officer exchanges teargas for stones.

4) GIANT CATAPULT

Demonstrating youth in Kenya have come up with vorious techniques of grabbing media and public attention. It is usually that moment to make the impossible look possible.
This is a photo of about 4 to 5 youth trying to attach a huge stone to a giant scary catapult with the aim of discouraging tbe police from coming close. Most times this is supported by a handful of muscular men while one takes their time to release the stone.

5) PROTESTER’S HIGHWAY KITCHEN

Cooking at the comfort of one’s in house kitchen is one thing, but setting up a mobile kitchen in the middle of a police manned road during protests is just hillarious. Save for the confidence and bravery to continue cooking even as the police approach. This pic has lightened up the internet in the past many hours of Maandamano.

6) THE SCORESHEET

Funny how police and wananchi running battles in the streets have been turned into a game worth watching from a distance. This photo shows protesters in Kondele sending a message to the Government based on performance of the day’s protest. According to this Kondele photos, the youth find the police easy to contain thus are confident they are winning the match which appears to have both first and second half just like football. The scoresheet is also used to spread hope to other youth on the need to join them in the war against high cost of living.

7) CUNNING PATRIOT

Tears is an irritating gun powder that is meant to discomfort the nose, eyes and mouth to disperse rowdy protesting citizens eapecially in Kenya. However this photo depicts the very opposite where it is some cunning citizen pouring water for a police who has enhaled the teargas from his own mates.
That act of kindness from the citizen mainly is inbelievable and can only be remembered with a very clear shot, such which lights up the internet real quick.

8)THE FIRE PLACE

This is one of the most popular of all. Once the youth manning a boundary roadblock created by themselves, with a bournfire lit, they are at liberty to grab a seat and enjoy the heat for as long as it lasts. I have witnessed scenarios where the protester is neither worried nor shaken by the presence of the police. Taking the fireplace to the major highway such as this is an act of heroism during protests.

9) WATER CANON MASTER

It takes alot of courage to face the huge water canon programed to spray the uncomfortable liquid like this man does. That is why we call such men Canon Masters. The man here is not even moved abit by the presense of the heavy lorry. Sometimes one is seen removing their clothes and enjoying the water from the canon, which comes with intense pressure.

10) FAST AND FURIOUS

The courage of stealing away a police vehicle during protests is just on another level. Other times the police are chased away and citizens ferry protesters using the vehicle till they run out of fuel and dump the vehicle anywhere. This pic shows a group of Kenyas trying to take over a police vehicle while already climbing at the roof top.
