TikTok Users will Start Earning Cash And Rewards

THOSE WHO USE the TikTok social network for business development will now be able to monetize themselves through their content.

This is according to the Director of the Public Policy Department of TikTok in Africa, Fortune Mgwili-Sibanda. Speaking in Nairobi, the director said that the platform aims to establish a system where users will be able to earn money or various gifts through their content.

“We have launched various systems where the user can save money. For example, Tiktok series allows users to demand payment from followers or people who view their content,” said Sibanda.

However, he said such systems have not caught on in Kenya and even other African countries. This action will only be possible through a system such as live gift and TikTok series. For example, when you record yourself cooking, then your followers can send you various gifts and later you can convert them into money.

This comes just a few months after President William Ruto spoke to the Chief Executive Officer of TikTok, Shou Zi Chew regarding the issues of controlling the content aired on the social network.

There has been an ongoing discussion in the country about whether or not the internet should be banned. Some people complain that social networks are used by perverts who post sex videos and others record themselves naked.

August 15, 2023, the Chief Executive Officer of Bridget Connect Consultancy, Bob Ndolo in his request to the National Assembly, asked lawmakers to ban the use of TikTok in the country, saying that the network contributes to the spread of sexual content.

The request will be considered by a committee that will give its decision after 60 days (since it was submitted to parliament). However, a fierce debate was witnessed, some MPs saying that the internet is being used as a source of income for many people, including young people.
