THIS IS HOW MALI PLAYER ‘ADAMA KEITA’ PARALYSED GOR MAHIA COMPLETELY |BANNED BY CAF, FIFA.
The Football Kenya Federation is banning Gor Mahia and revoking the club’s licence thus making them unfit for the soon to begin CAF championships. Gor Mahia has been on the FIFA chopping board not once not twice. So far they have had a number of issues to settle but the biggest one is that of keeper Adama Keita from Mali against Gor Mahia.This is practically how it all began.
“August 2021- The Malian goalkeeper, Adama Keita, joins Gor Mahia on a two-year deal.
May 2022-Adama reports Gor Mahia to FIFA’s Disputes Resolution Chamber over breach of contract after they failed to pay him for a couple of months. The club was facing financial challenges then.
July 2022-Keita terminates his contract with Gor Mahia citing a breach on the part of the Kenyan champions. He informs FIFA’s DRC of the same and demands more compensation from K’Ogalo.
November 2022- FIFA’s Disputes Resolution Chamber rules the breach of contract case in Adama Keita’s favour, the player is awarded a total of 30544 USD (4,331,750 as per current rates) in compensation. 5% interest inclusive.
March 2023-The two parties reach a payment plan that resulted in the club’s transfer ban being lifted. Gor pay the player 16000 USD ( 2,288,548) and pledge to pay the remaining 14544 USD (Kes. 2,080, 290) by latest 30th April 2023.
March 2023- In the payment plan drafted by legal representatives and signed by both parties, a clause was inserted that IF Gor fail to clear the balance by the stipulated time (30th April) then a penalty of USD 15272 (Kes. 2,184,419)
which is 50% of the principal amount 30544 ( Kes.4, 331,750) would apply.
30th April 2023 -Gor defaulted and the player moved back to FIFA seeking to be paid the remaining amount+ penalty which is a total of 29816 USD (Kes. 4,228,505)
July 2023-The player writes to CAF requesting them to revoke Gor Mahia’s license as they still owe him money contrary to CAF’s Club Licencing requirements.
July 2023-CAF respond immediately directing Gor to pay the player all his dues by 20th July 5PM EAT. They are also direct Gor to settle the monies owed to Yangayay Sando Sando and Jules Ulimwengu.
19th July-Gor Mahia pay Sando Sando all his money. They are left with Ulimwengu and Keita.
20th July- Efforts to strike another payment plan with Keita prove futile as the player wants all his monies paid in one instalment.”
Currently Gor Mahia has stretched its limits and broken many codes this hangs in the mercy of the political willpower.
Either the club will seek the intervention of ICT CAS Eliud Owalo or Former PM Raila Odinga to bail it out however bad things are.
However this might also put them in a fix in terms of political loyalty and this might not be good for the game. Whatever has befallen Gor Mahia we believe can be reverted. It all depends on how quick their rescue will come.
