Suzanna Owiyo joined a Nairobi famous singer, Sally Oyugi, as a backing vocalist after graduating from high school in 1998. However, in 2000, they broke up because Oyugi wanted to join a band in Nairobi called Bora Bora Sound. She eventually returned to perform in Kisumu. She was found by a young businessman here, who gave her the first guitar she had ever owned once she had honed her craft. She continued to perform at a club in Karen while returning to Nairobi to study music at the Kenya Conservatoire of Music.

Suzanna Owiyo was asked to write a theme song for the opening ceremony during the 2002–2004 planning phases of the city of Kisumu’s centenary festivities. She recognized the chance to collaborate with Kenyan music producer Tedd Josiah and extend her work to an album.
She received praise for her debut album in the “Most Promising Female Artist category” at the 2002 Kora Awards. She received another Kisima Award for Most Promising Female Artist of 2003 thanks to the album. After that, Suzanna Owiyo was scheduled for a lot of concerts in Kenya and overseas.

International admirers were won over by her performance at the annual Corporate Council on Africa Summit in Baltimore, Maryland. At the Zanzibar International Film Festival in Zanzibar and the World Trade Expo in Japan, Suzanna once more had the chance to act on a global stage. Suzanna Owiyo performed at several venues in Maryland and New York during her time in the United States.

Suzanna Owiyo was a member of the Divas of the Nile supergroup in 2007, together with Mercy Myra, Achieng Abura, and Princess Jully, among others. In 2007, the quartet gave a performance at the Festival Mundial.

Suzanna Owiyo, a global celebrity and activist, recorded and performed for the anti-corruption campaign set up by the steering committee for the Kenya Anti-corruption Campaign. For the Kenya Tourist Board, Suzanna Owiyo once more created a theme song. Suzanna Owyo, a representative of Kenya, attended the MASA Festival in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, in June 2007.

She gave a performance at the famous Yara Prize Awards ceremony in Oslo. She shared the stage with icons like the Brass Brothers and Papa Wemba from the DRC Congo. Suzanna Owiyo had a performance at the Maputo, Mozambique, New Year’s Eve Concert in December 2007. At Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday event in London, Suzanna Owiyo gave a performance. She received a second invitation to perform at the WOMEX event as an activist.
