STILL SADDENING HOW PILIPILI LOST HIS ‘MORALE’ AFTER ‘KAMATA DAME’ | MIC CHECK
Nothing slapped differently like a collaboration between a Genge artist featuring Coastal artists, a few notable examples were Nonini ft Nyota Ndogo, Jua Cali ft Sanaipei, not to leave out Pilipili ft Rat a tat.
Pilipili presumably was the only Calif Records artist who sang as if he was hurrying to leave and eventually left.Sad to note though.
Peter Gatonye, as his id names had it, first announced his presence through a collaboration with the late Gun B(D.O Misiani’s son). “Nampenda” was the name of the song. He later gave us a number of hits courtesy of “Beat ya Clemmo” only to dissappear and never be heard again on our Kenyan airwaves.
His debut album Fungua Mlango released in 2005 had hits like Morale, Kuja Nami, Ukimwona and Mpaka Che, that put him at the top of the charts and landed him five Kisima Awards nominations, winning three, and others at Chaguo la Teeniez and Groove awards.
The father of one did try his hand on music production by launching his own stable known as Chili Inc but things never went according to plan. He later invested in a radio station but it’s like it was another learning platform. His comeback is most awaited by Kenyans hopping he gets a second chance to bounce back like Nyashinski.
