Azimio One Kenya coalition is under internal wrangle over who should be the presidential candidate come the 2027 General election. The conflict is mainly between the ODM party and the Wiper party.
ODM mps are pushing for Raila Odinga’s candidacy saying that he is the most ideal person to ouster Ruto who is seen as a failure already in his first term. According to ODM mps led by Minority leader Opiyo Wandayi, they argue that Odinga should make his one last stab at the presidency.
Embakasi East mp Babu Owino and Caleb Amisi argue that Raila has a chance to win massive following if he contest again in 2027. Vihiga Senator Godfrey and nominated MP John Mbadi also agreed that Raila could easily win the next elections if he run for it.
However, Wiper camp are pushing for Kalonzo’s presidency and reserving the prime minister seat for Mr. Odinga. MmSenator Dan Maanzo of Makueni county said that Mr. Musyoka is the best man to beat Ruto in 2027.
“We can have Kalonzo as the presidential candidate and still keep Karua as his running mate and possibly make Raila prime minister,” Mr Maanzo said.
All these are seen as a possible leeway to a split in the coalition before the general election of 2027.
