DPP has raised concern of Shakahola victims who are reported to be engaging in sexual activities at rescue centres. The rescue activities involve sixty five victims who happen to be significant victims in the case against the alleged Shakahola cult leader, McKenzie.
The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has warned Joe Omide, the Shanzu Senior Principal Magistrate that the country may soon be faced with a crisis of gender-based violence and unexpected pregnancies.
The DPP said,”The patients have now totally healed, are vivacious, and have reportedly engaged in sexual activity. Along with eating and freely chatting inside their hostels, this is where they spend the most of their time,”
Jamii also moved to court asking them for permission to move the victims from the rescue centres to Shimo LA Tewa where they given different male and female cells and also be supervised of their daily activities.
Reportedly, two of the survivors have been diagnosed with mental issues and on locating their relatives, they will be dealt with in line with the law.
He stated that,” To prevent a potential problem that the State would have to handle even before they were made into witnesses.We are now seeking for the court to make orders to have all the victims held at the prison.”
