Rigathi Gachagua has now said that a good number of people who have so far died due to the ongoing El Nino rains were as a result of recklessness and failure to take personal responsibility to protect oneself.
He said that out of the 87 cases that have been reported so far, 37 died after they dared the nature and trying to outdo the raging waters. He argues that the deaths of the 37 did not happen due to water invading residences but due to them trying to cross flooded roads and bridges.
“Out of the 87 deaths that have occurred due to El Nino, 37 of them is by drowning. Not floods getting into your house, but you going to where the floods are and daring nature,” he said in Kwale.
He believes that the intervention by the government will not be of impact as long as Kenyans intentionally put themselves to risk.
“I want to appeal to the people of Kenya wherever they are to be responsible. How do we intervene when you yourself get into a river and you can see the way it is flowing?” he asked.
