Raila Odinga made Gor Mahia’s win over Muhoroni Youth on Sunday 26 November 2023 even more memorable after gifting the club Ksh 1 million.

The former Prime Minister, who arrived in a chopper at the Raila Odinga Stadium to witness Gor’s first ever match at the venue also gave Muhoroni Youth Ksh 500,000.

Gor Mahia won the hotly contested match played in front of thousands of supporters to increase their chances of winning this year’s Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) title.

Benson’s Omalla’s goal in the 16th minute and Christopher’s Ochieng’s late strike ensured K’Ogalo returned to Nairobi with maximum points.

This is not the first time this year that Odinga has donated money to Gor Mahia. He had previously given the club alongside rivals AFC Leopards Ksh 500,000 each during the Mashemeji derby held at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in October.

In other FKFPL fixtures played on Sunday, KCB FC narrowly beat Murang’a Seal 2 -1 in a match staged at the SportPesa Arena while Police FC whitewashed hosts Nzoia Sugar 3-1 at the Sudi Stadium.

Police FC goals came courtesy of David Odhiambo, David “Cheche” Ochieng and South Sudan international Tito Okello with Oyugi Joseph netting Nzoia Sugar’s goal.

On the other hand, Francis Kahiro and Haniff Wesonga were on the scoresheet for KCB with Awita Batts  getting the consolation goal for Murang’a Seal in the 89th minute.

Gor Mahia currently sit second in the FKFPL log standings with 24 points, one behind leaders Posta Rangers.

KCB’s win over Murang’a Seal ensured they jumped into third with 22 points while the latter dropped to fourth.

Omalla, who opened his account for the national team in Harambee Stars 5 – 0 thrashing of Seychelles earlier this week in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers group match leads the FKFPL golden boot race with eight goals.
