Rachel Ruto is the current First Lady of the Republic of Kenya and wife to the Kenya’s fifth president William Ruto. Rachel is famed for her religious nature and firmness in prayer.

Rachel Ruto’s real name is Rachel Chebet and she was born on 20th November in 1968 in Likuyani, Kakamega county. She is soon celebrating her 55th birthday this year.

 

Rachel Ruto Education Background

Sh started her education at Likuyani Primary school in Kakamega county and later joined Butere Girls High School. Rachel would later advance to Kenyatta University to pursue a Bachelor degree in Education Arts. After her degree, she got her masters of Arts from Catholic University of Eastern Africa.

Even though she is a teacher by profession, Rachel Ruto did not stay as a teacher for long and she voluntarily retired to take up own businesses. He became a travel and tour entrepreneur where she took tourists both local and foreign to various places such as Maasai Mara.

During her time as Second Lady of Kenya, she was at the forefront of advocating for  women’s rights in Kenya and their empowerment. She formed Joyful Women Organization which is a table banking initiative for women across the country and throughout Africa.

She is a champion of healthy life as she is a Fitness advocate through her cycling initiative. She organises cycling marathons every year to sensitize Kenyans on the need to keep physical fitness.

 

Her staunch beliefs in Christianity made her fiercely oppose the same sex marriage and intimacy after supreme court okayed the issue in March 2023.

Rachel Ruto Family, Marriage and Children

Rachel was married to William Ruto in 1991 at a church wedding in AIC church. The two had met at the university where they were all members of the Christian Union and had gone for a CU rally at University of Nairobi. Ruto was at the University of Nairobi while Rachel was from Kenyatta university.

They are blessed with six children and adopted another daughter called Nadia but renamed her Cherono after Ruto’s mother.
