Police officer burns his colleague’s car in Kakamega county

The officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation , DCI, in Kakamega county are investigating a shocking incident where a police officer set on fire his colleague’s car burning it to ashes after argument.

According to reports, Constable Evans Kamau is accused of setting ablaze a car, which was a Toyota Allion. He used a matchstick and a mattress to start the fire. This was following a misunderstanding with the policewoman who is his neighbour at the station’s staff quarters.

The victim identified as Constable Gladys Kimanzi, is an officer stationed at Kabras Traffic Base. She reported that she had an argument with Mr Kamau at 9 pm on Monday and he had walked out in hurry and anger with some of his belongings.

Moments later, the whole neighborhood was woken up by fierce fire and sharp smell of burning items. They were shocked to see the officer’s car on fire. They joined in putting off the fire which they managed to but the bonnet and the front part of the car was badly damaged.

“Today August 1, 2023, at about 0230hrs, the said police Constable Evans Kamau deliberately set ablaze the complainant’s motor vehicle…using a mattress and a matchstick,” the police report.

Constable Kamau who appeared drunk was arrested and will be charged with arson according to the law. Two matchboxes that were found on him will be used as exhibits against him. The cause of their misunderstanding which led to this incident has not been revealed yet.
