Peter Salasya is among the few young members of parliament in Kenya. He became popular after his famous campaign where the electorates are the one who campaigned for him and even built him a house.
Age
Peter Kelerwa Salasya was born on January 15, 1989, and is the second youngest of seven children. He was born in Mumias in Kakamega county and his father John Salasya died in 2007 when Peter was in form two.
Education
The amusing 32-year-old was a student at Shianderema Primary School until 2005, when he sat for his Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) before enrolling at Lubinu Boys High School.
After finishing high school, he enrolled at Egerton University, Nakuru Campus, where he earned a Bachelor of Commerce degree in 2013. Salasya is also a graduate of Sigalagala National Polytechnic, where he earned a Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management.
Career
His first foray into leadership came as a first-year student at Egerton University, when he ran for Director of Academics. He was not successful, but he did not give up when he tried his hand at leadership during his third year at university. This time, he ran unsuccessfully for the position of vice chairman on the student council.
He obtained his first work as a bicycle vendor shortly after graduating in 2014, and he afterwards dabbled as a school teacher. He later worked as the Operations Director at the Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) before entering politics.
The legislator’s national political career began during the 2017 General Election campaigns, when he is believed to have campaigned on a handcart pushed by his supporters. He did not perform well, but he received the third-most votes in the election, trailing only Benjamin Washiali, who won, and David Wamatsi, who finished second.
In the 2022 elections, he didn’t even have a residence to begin with, which created campaign fodder for his opponents. His friends, however, banded together to build him a house, and he was later elected as a member of parliament for Mumias East on the DAP-K party ticket.
Marriage
The young legislature is yet to marry and has been making headlines with his comics on looking for a wife.

He is worth over ksh. 50 million.
