About DETR
The Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) is the state agency responsible for overseeing the unemployment insurance program in the state of Nevada, US. If you have lost your job for no fault of your own, you might be eligible for unemployment benefits. The eligibility requirements are same across all states in the US, except for the benefit amount and prior earnings requirements. As defined by the Nevada law, applicants must not only be unemployed but also be able and available to work. Additionally, you must have earned at least a minimum amount in wages before the jobless state.

Applicants must have earned wages in at least three of the four quarters of the base period. Your weekly benefit amount will be 4% of your total earnings during the highest paid quarter of the base period. The minimum has been set to $16 per week and maximum to $407 per week (as of 2020). The length of time though is based on earnings during base period, claimants cannot receive benefits for more than 26 weeks.

A claim for unemployment benefits in Nevada can be made via phone or in person at nearest One Stop Claim Center. The fastest and most convenient way to make a claim is however online. As for the information you will need when you are filing a claim, keep ready the list of names and address of last two employers. Claimants must furnish driver’s license and social security number. If you are not a US citizen, you would be asked to input the Alien Registration number. If your request has been approved, expect a determination to be sent to your email. For those who receive benefits, note that the Nevada law requires you continue to file claim weekly by phone or website. During the time, you also must prove that you have been actively seeking employment. A record of your work search activities must be maintained. To file weekly claim login to your Claimant Self Service (CSS) account and choose “File Weekly Claim”. Expect payment to be released in two days of filing claim. If you have found a job and no longer need benefits, you can stop filing your weekly claims.

As for receiving payments, claimants have the option to request for direct wire transfer to saving/checking account or receive amount through debit card. If the former, you will need to provide the account details when filling the claim application. If choosing the debit card, you can withdraw cash through an ATM or use at store for shopping or other needs. Meanwhile, claimants who are seeking employment can visit nearest Claim Center for assistance. The state agency also runs a job portal where you can register to connect with employers.
