Mashirima Kapombe is a Kenyan award-winning bilingual Reporter and anchor with over eight years of experience in the local media scene. She is known for hosting Citizen TV’s 7 pm show Nipashe weekend every Friday, which includes a fun Kiswahili language clinic dubbed “Longalonga,” which she hosts alongside veterans Munene Nyaga and Nuhu Bakari in a fun-filled format that provides for voices from different counties.

Mashirima Kapombe can also be caught on Citizen’s Wednesday show, Sema Na Citizen for news updates, and a discussion on matters health. Until the end of September this year, Mashirima co-hosted the Monday Report Townhall session alongside Trevor Ombija and Waihiga Mwaura.

Kapombe is 30 years old as of 2019, she was born on May 1, 1989, in Voi Town in Taita Taveta County. She celebrates her birthday on May 1st every year. Mashirima Kapombe will be 31 years old on May 1st, 2020.

Kapombe comes from a very supportive family. Not much is known about her parents. However, her father is a Dentist in Nyeri County, from Giriama, Kilifi County, while her mum is a Taita from Voi, Taita Taveta County. She moved with her dad to Nyeri after he changed jobs.

Mashirima’s career began at Daystar University as a News and program presenter announcing in both English and Kiswahili on the radio from May 2010 – May 2011 at 103.1 Shine FM, where she also served as the station Manager.

From there, she moved to KBC, where she filled in as an intern for seven weeks between May and June 2011. She was then called to QFM, where she worked both as an intern and contracted a newsreader for six months. There, she would also do stories for NTV on her off days.

During the fall of 2011, NTV hired her to fill in as an anchor/reporter, where she got the opportunity to learn and grow before moving to KTN on Feb 4, 2013. At KTN, she got a more significant opportunity to do long-form features, anchor, and tell stories in Kiswahili, which is her absolute passion.

Job History

Dating Information

Comedian Kazungu Matano popularly known as Otoyo, is said to be dating KTN’s Swahili anchor Mashirima Kapombe.

This is after in 2014. He posted a photo of the beautiful Mashirima with a caption that suggests more than a platonic friendship. The caption read, “Osiep chunya,” which is Luo for “A friend of my heart.”

Sources said the two have been dating for close to two years, but it is until in 2014 they decided to go public. Kazungu Matano also put her as his cover photo on Facebook.

However, Mashirima denies that she is dating someone and says she is single.

Children

Mashirima has a baby boy who she bore together with Comedian Kazungu Matano, popularly known as Otoyo.
