President Uhuru Kenyatta’s mom and previous First woman Mama Ngina Kenyatta has been accepting Ksh. 568, 218 regularly scheduled compensation per month since 2013, reports businessdaily.com. The compensation is because of Ngina being the mate of Kenya establishing president Mzee Jomo Kenyatta who kicked the bucket in 1978.
This disclosure has started warmed discussion via web-based networking media stages. Treasury has anyway advocated the compensation saying the law accommodates a life partner of a sitting or resigned president to be paid 40 percent of the present pay paid to the sitting head of state should their better halves die.
The Presidential Retirement Benefits Act states:
“Spouse benefits upon the death of a serving President or of a retired President who is in receipt of or who is entitled to a pension under this Act, his surviving spouse shall be entitled to benefits amounting to fifty percent of such pension”
Mrs. Kenyatta started receiving the payment before her son, Uhuru Kenyatta, became President in 2013, officials at the Presidency said.
At 40 percent of the sitting president’s salary, Mrs. Kenyatta is in line for a Ksh. 577, 500 monthly pay.
Retired Presidents pocket 80 percent of current salary of the sitting Head of State-which translates to kes1.15 million per month- and also enjoy such perks as fuel, house and entertainment allowances.
