Many politicians in Kenya are just politicians by making but not by profession. A profession involves learning process to make you competent in the given line of professionalism but politics is all about one’s ability to convince the electorates to win their trust and other skills are acquired through experience.
A quick look at Kenya’s national assembly, there are three female members who trained as teachers but have ended up in politics and have vast experience gained from it. Here are the four female law makers who are teachers by training;
1. Dr. Joyce Atieno Bensouda
She is the current woman representative for Homa Bay county having taken over from Gladys Wanga who is now the governor. Atieno Ochogo aka Bensouda is popular for her vocal fight for girls welfare in the country and her conspicuous nature makes her stand out. She worked as a lecturer at the department of Spatial Planning at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology.
2. Sabina Chege
Sabina Chege is a nominated member of parliament but she is a former woman representative for Murang’a county for two terms since 2013 to 2022.
Before joining politics she was a radio presenter at Kameme FM and KBC. While at KBC she was appointed as head of financial radio services. Despite all these, Sabina is a trained teacher who studied bachelor of education at the university of Nairobi, however, she has never been a teacher.
