George Manne Oppong Weah, popular as George Weah, who is the current president of Liberia has conceded defeat in the recent elections. According to available reports, he has conceeded defeat to his close rival and opposition leader Joseph Boakai. Boakai is leading in the runoff polls with over 51%.
Weah is now set to become a one term president having taken over in 2018 from Ellen Johnson Sirleaf who made history as the first female presidentof Liberia and whole of Africa continent. Weah was the 28th president of Liberia ince independence. Before being president, Weah served as the senator for Montserrado County in Liberia.
George Weah was also a professional footballer for a career that spanned for over 18 years. He played as a striker for several European clubs. He spent years playing for clubs in France, Italy and England. Former Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger is the one who signed him for Monaco in 1988 before he moved to PSG in 1992and he won the Division 1 in 1994. Weah would become the topscorer of the 1994/95 UEFA Champions League. He moved to AC Milan in 1995 and won the Serie A title twice before moving to Premier League and joined Chelsea hen to Manchester City. He would return to Marseille in 2001 but he finished his career with Al Jazira in 2003.
