The management of the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology has impressed the public after releasing a notice indicating that they will refund their staffs the money deducted for housing levy fund.
In the notice, the institution revealed that they were taking the decision following the ruling by the court of appeal that termed housing levy unconstitutional and therefore declined to give orders allowing government to continue deduction of the tax.
The university said that the deductions made on January salaries were to be refunded by 9th February. However, no staff has come out to confirm if they were indeed refunded.
The issue of housing fund has been a contentious one as the government is determined to go ahead with the deductions aimed at building affordable housing but petitioners have always been on the winning side where courts have been terming the deductions as illegal.
