Mandago worked as an employee of Teachers Service Commission. He is the patron of the Uasin Gishu Rotary Club and the Agriculture Society of Kenya, Eldoret Chapter. He joined politics and was elected the first governor of Uasin Gishu county after defeating the businessman, Zedekiah Kiprop Buzeki. He retained his seat in 2017 elections and served for a second term as governor. In the 2022 elections, Mandago opted to vie as senator for Uasin Gishu county after serving a two term of five years each as governor according to constitution.

Jackson Mandago Controversy
While serving as governor in his last term, he came up with a program that he explained to his people that would help students willing to do nursing abroad. He termed it as scholarship program between the county government of Uasin Gishu and a university in Finland. The interested parents and students were to pay some money to facilitate this process and cater for their air tickets and accommodation.
However, it turned out that this program was not well analyzed and so many students were not able to travel making the parents demand for a refund of their funds. This is a saga that is still ongoing till now.
