Isaac Mwaura is a Kenyan politician who served as nominated senator under Jubilee Party but before he was a nominated member of parliament under ODM party. In the last elections, he vied for Ruiru parliamentary seat but lost.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Isaac Mwaura real name, date of birth and place of birth

Isaac’s real name is Isaac Maigua Mwaura and he was born on 29th May in 1982 and he is 41 years as of 2023. His place of birth is Githunguri in Kiambu county. Isaac Mwaura revealed that his father abandoned his mother when he was born due to his albinism. According to the father, their family had no albino and so the mother must have cheated on him with a white man to give birth to an albino. His mother had to raise him and his elder brother all by herself through doing menial jobs like tilling land for others.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Isaac Mwaura education background

He started his education at the Thika Primary school and he was a very bright pupil in school who was always among the top three students in terms of performance academically. During that year’s KCPE he emerged the best and was offered a chance at Starehe Boys Center but due to his poor background, he could not join Starehe. Instead he was admitted at Thika High School for the Blind. Again, he excelled in high school both academically and in leadership as he served as the school head boy.

 

 

 

 

 

 

After high school, Mwaura joined Kenyatta University where he did a degree in Special Education, French Studies and Japanese. Later, he acquired masters in Arts in Development Studies from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. He continued with his quest for education by getting another masters degree in Arts in Social and Public Policy studies from University of Leeds in the United Kingdom.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Isaac Mwaura career

His star started shining in 2006 when he featured in a play alongside Lupita Nyong’o. They were characters in a play named My Genes where he acted as an aspiring member of parliament. This formed the platform to shape his political career as through Lupita, he was able to meet Anyang’ Nyong’o who became his political godfather.

 

 

 

 

 

After starring in the movie, Mwaura became a national figure and this made him be appointed as the board director of the National Council for Persons with Disabilities, NCPD. At this time, he was just a 22 year old man making him the youngest board member in the country. Mwaura has done a lot for the people living with disabilities especially the albinos as he was among the founders of Albinism Society of Kenya. As a member of parliament he managed to petition government to allocate ksh. 100 million to provide sunglasses for the albinos.

 

 

 

His political journey started in 2010 when he was appointed as Senior Advisor to former Prime Minister Raila Odinga on matters of public policy on special interests groups. He held the position till 2012. From here, in 2013, ODM nominated him to the National Assembly making him the first Kenyan Mp with albinism.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In 2015, Mwaura made a move that was termed as betrayal when he switched from CORD coalition to Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party but he defended himself saying he first informed Raila Odinga about his plans to switch camp. He revealed that he had to do this since he was planning to vie as mp for Ruiru where he could not manage to win with ODM ticket. Jubilee rewarded him by nominating him to Senate. He did not win the Ruiru seat in 2017 and still survived on nomination.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

During the 2022 general elections, Mwaura vied again for the Ruiru parliamentary seat on Independent ticket after missing on UDA ticket but he was defeated. He was then named as a CAS but these positions where rendered unconstitutional. He stay in cold for a year until 4th October 2023 when William Ruto named him as the Government Spokesperson.

Isaac Mwaura is a family man who is legally married to Nelius Mukami Rwamba whom he wedded in 2015 in an event attended by former president Uhuru Kenyatta among other leaders. They met through a mutual friend back in 2012 and Mwaura revealed that his love life had not been easy as he was easily judged base on his appearance. They gave birth to triplets on 17th January 2017 but two of the three died shortly leaving only one boy named Njiru Mwaura.
