The self proclaimed president of African Comedy Eric Omondi has left Kenyans curious on what might be cooking following his recent activities. Omondi who has been seen trying to engage in political activism around the country is suspected to be eying a political seat in the next general elections. This has been evident going by the series of events and activities to engage with the masses.
His recent engagements with the Odinga’s family has even created more rooms for speculations over his political ambitions. It first begun by him visiting Raila at his Karen home where Odinga is seen meeting him and then leading the way to the house. What follows is a meeting or rather a private chat where no information was released over what they discussed. All that the comedian posted was a video with no sound of them talking happily. This was on Sunday 10th.
Omondi was again seen accompanying Mama Ida Odinga to a function at St. Augustine’s Nyamonye Girls in Yimbo location, Siaya county. This event was a fundraiser and a sanitary pads donation where Eric Omondi even adopted a form one girl named Shanice. He pledged to take care of the girl’s school fees from form one to form four. It is unusual for Eric Omondi to be the one accompanying Ida Odinga to such a function and so this has also opened a room for speculations.
Some months ago or rather since last year after elections, Omondi has been on the forefront of fighting for the rights of youths where he staged some demonstrations meant to create awareness to the government over the hard economic situation around the country. This was later followed by several fund drive activities to help several Kenyans who had various issues such as sickness or any other. He even helped secure release of Kenyans who were unlawfully jailed.
Despite him not coming out to clearly state his political ambitions, all these activities are pointing out to a possible entry into politics. His sudden closeness with the Odinga’s especially at a time when Jalang’o has been on the wrong side of the ODM party which even expelled him from the party, is now proving that he might be the one Odinga is grooming to take over from Jalas. Indictions are now pointing out that Omondi might be the man to ouster Jalas from the Lang’ata seat come 2027 general elections under the ODM ticket.
