The government has come up with a new platform for application of funds and scholraships for higher education. This is through the new platform called Higher Education Financing portal, HEF. This is a move from the original HELB platform.
Government scholarships and loans are available to students enrolling in universities, colleges, and TVET schools beginning with the academic year 2023/2024 and continuing. Students who enrolled prior to 2023 may continue to use the former government financing and HELB loan application methodology. Grants and scholarships will be provided based on the financial situation of the student. As has been the case with HELB loans,
Procedure for applying for HEF loans and scholarships
– Go to the HEF portal https://hef.co.ke
– Select Student Registration
– Create an account using a valid email and phone number
– After signup, log in
– Select the Scholarships, Loans, or Bursaries
– Fill out the application form for the funding product you are interested in
You will be asked to provide certain papers to prove your financial situation. The portal has the same strategy as the HELB loan portal. This implies that some verification papers will need to be signed and submitted by hand.
Starting July 31, 2023, the HEF portal will be accessible for applications. The application date is August 27, 2023.
