Harambee Starlets name provisional squad ahead of final 2024 WAFCON qualifier

Beldine Odemba, head coach of the women’s national football team Harambee Starlets, has called 29 players to camp ahead of their final qualifying round for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) where they are set to take on Botswana in a two-legged tie.

Starlets begin with the first leg at home on Wednesday 29 November followed by the second leg away in Botswana on Tuesday 5 December with the winner of the tie guaranteed a spot in the tournament to be held in 2024 in Morocco.

Most of the players who had a significant role in stunning Cameroon in the first round of the qualifiers have been retained with Vihiga Queens Mercyline Wayodi and FK Apolonia Fier Lorna Nyarinda making a comeback to the team.

Joining the squad for the first time are Kenya Police Bullets Goalkeeper Mishi Mbaru, Bungoma Queens Defender Centrine Wasike, Kenya Police Bullets and Kibera Soccer Ladies forwards Rebecca Okwaro and Nancy Atako respectively.

Graduating to the senior team from Rising Starlets is the Ulinzi Starlets duo of Joy Kinglady and Fasila Odhiambo.

While Starlets knocked out Cameroon in the first round with a huge 4-3 win on post-match penalties following a 1-1 draw, Botswana eased to a 10-1 aggregate victory over Gabon.
