It is now five days since the five tourists both of whom are rich billionaires got trapped in vessel whose size is of a minibus. The water vessel is named ”Titan”. The five were on a tourism mission to see the famous Titanic ship of 1912 which sunk below the ocean.
The journey starte on Sunday but the vessel suddenly lost contact with its mother ship on the surface jut after one hour and 45 minutes into the water. The mother ship is named Polar Prince and is responsible for launching and locating the vessel.
This vessel made its first journey under the water in December 2018 where it went 4,000 meter as per the company’s website. It made a dive to where the Titanic ship is in 2021 which is about 3800 meters. They had plannedtoake more than 18 of such journeys this year.
It is reported that contrary to submarine, the submersible has less power reserves and must be supported by another ship which is the Polar Prince located on the surface to launch and recover it. Unlike a submarine which can stay underwater for months, the ‘Titan’, can only stay underwater for about 11 hours.
To get a seatvon the Titan, the OceanGate Expeditions, which runs the Titan’s trips, charges ksh 35 million for a seat.
Those who were in the Titan are British billionaire and businessman Hamish Harding, French diver and Titanic expert Paul-Henri Nargeolet, Pakistani billionaire Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman Dawood and the OceanGate CEO and the submersible’s founder Stockton Rush.
Since there is no GPS underwater, Titan communicates with its mother ship by text messages and the submersible is supposed to communicate every 15 minutes. The last message between Titan and the Polar Prince came in at 11:47 a.m. Sunday.
