About Chicago Union Station
Chicago Union Station is one of the most iconic and historic commuter rail stations in North America. A key part of the city’s transportation infrastructure for over a century, it is a popular destination for tourists from all over the world. Whether you’re traveling for business or pleasure, Union Station has something for you.

Chicago Union Station is one of the busiest commuter rail stations in the world and is also one of the most beautiful. The well respected 19th-century urban designer Daniel Burnham designed the structure. The station is an iconic example of Victorian architecture, immortalized in paintings and sculptures. The station is home to over 200 passenger trains each day, making it a key terminal for tourists and commuters alike.

The station features dining options, mobile charging stations, and a nursing room. There are many beautiful event locations at Chicago Union Station, each dedicated to telling a different part of our city’s story. Taking pictures and filming at the Chicago Union Station is allowed for both personal and commercial purposes. The station is also home to Amtrak’s Regional Railroad Service, which provides service to Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Illinois.

The Amtrak ticketing window is located at the center of the concourse (near baggage carousel). Additionally, blue Amtrak ticketing kiosks located in The Great Hall are available for printing and assistance. You can buy Metra tickets on the concourse level of the station. Greyhound ticketing is located in the South Concourse.  Note that while the station is open all 7 days a week, it closes daily between 1am and 5am.

Chicago Union Station has large displays providing information you need on train schedules and other transportation options. From there, you can explore all the different routes and schedules, as well as plan your commute accordingly. If you need to cancel your reservation, you can do so online at Amtrak.com. If you make any changes to your reservation after you book it online, it may be impossible to cancel.

Likewise, if you used a credit card, an eVoucher, or phoned in your reservation, you can cancel them through the Amtrak website, regardless of whether they were made in person, by phone, or at a Quik-Trak kiosk. Reservations can be canceled in some circumstances but not in all, and certain fares may have additional restrictions. It is also possible to receive a refund by calling 1-800-USA-RAIL (1-800-872-7245). Ticket holders must return paper value tickets for a refund, except for eTickets.

If you have lost a baggage, you can contact Amtrak Lost & Found at the email provided on this page. Amtrak’s website has a Reporting Lost Items page that you can use to submit a report. You can find Metra Lost & Found at the ticketing window or call 312-322-4269.

Popular trains operating from the station are: Blue Water (Chicago – Port Huron, Michigan), California Zephyr (Chicago – Emeryville), Capitol Limited (Chicago – Washington DC), Cardinal (Chicago – New York), City of New Orleans (Chicago – New Orleans), Empire Builder (Chicago – Portland/Seattle), and Hiawatha Service (Chicago – Milwaukee). Connecting stations of Metra services include BNSF Railway Line, Heritage Corridor, Milwaukee District / North Line, Milwaukee District / West Line, North Central Service, and SouthWest Service, to name a few.

Chicago Union Station is a world-class transportation hub that connects passengers to all of the vital transit options in and around the city. Whether you’re a commuter looking for a quick and easy way to get to work, or someone who’s traveling for leisure, Chicago Union Station will never disappoint.
