American Airlines, with its enormous fleet, caters to millions of passengers each year. For convenient travel, the airline offers online check-in. Online check-in services can be availed 24 hours before the scheduled departure to 45 minutes before the flight. For international passengers, online check-in closes 90 minutes before departure. The airline advises its customers to reach the airport 3 hours before the scheduled departure. Gates close 15 minutes before the departure of domestic flights, and 30 minutes before the departure of international flights. American Airlines has made it mandatory for all its passengers to adhere to the baggage limit sizes when traveling on the AA flights. For all the regions, the checked baggage allowance should not exceed the dimension of 62 inches (158 cm) (L + H + W). The hand baggage should not exceed the dimensions of 18 x 14 x 8 inches, including the wheels and handles.

All the passengers can carry three complimentary bags on the 3-cabin aircraft and two complimentary bags on 2-cabin aircraft. With American Airlines’ basic fare, customers are allowed to carry check-in baggage weighing 50 lbs. (23 kgs). On transatlantic flights, standard economy passengers can carry baggage weighing 23 kgs. Additional baggage costs $100 for the first additional bag, $200 for further additional bags. First and business class passengers can carry bags weighing up to 32 kgs each. Business-class passengers can carry two complimentary bags beside the allowed number of bags and premium economy passengers can carry two complimentary bags except on the flights from Hawaii or Alaska. Passengers can travel with sports equipment, assistive devices for customers with disabilities, one carry-on item, and one personal item in their quota.

Once a missing or damaged baggage is registered, the passenger will get a 13-character file reference number to track the process of the complaint.
