A 23-year-old man who was filmed jumping from a four-storey building in Mombasa died at the Coastal General Hospital after being rushed there for treatment on Monday morning.
In a video of the incident that has been circulating on social media, the victim is seen jumping from an open window of a hotel in the Valley area, along Abdel Nasser road. He had a white towel tied around his waist when he let go and fell to the ground with a thud.
While confirming the death of the man suspected of throwing himself in an attempt to commit suicide, Mombasa County Police Commander Stephen Matu confirmed that the deceased died at the Coastal General Hospital from internal injuries to the head and stomach.
According to the police report, the Somali man jumped from the open window of the hotel and landed on the street with a crash where he lay unconscious before the hotel management rushed him to the hospital.
It was reported that he died later at around 4:30 in the morning. The police later searched the man’s hotel room and discovered that he had damaged various items including the TV, curtains and lights. According to reports, the family of the deceased who lives in Nyali had arranged a room for him in the hotel after the violence started.
The investigation into the man’s death is still ongoing and the police are trying to determine the cause of the incident.
